‘What exactly is Marketing,’ was…….

…….a question I was asked this morning.

Well, marketing refers to the process of identifying and satisfying customer needs at a profit. Initially it looks at the needs customers have and then researches the market to ensure there is sufficient demand and it’s worth developing a solution (at a cost to your organisation) that fits this need. Those products and services developed will then need to be communicated to let the target customer group you have solutions to their problems and your organisation should be chosen through branding and pricing options.

Most people believe marketing refers solely to the promotion of products through advertising and distribution channels (sales) and immediately start looking at branding (especially corporate indentity) from the design aspect first. This is a mistake that could cost you long term if there is no demand for services.

Understanding the overall marketing mix (in relation to the “4p’s or 6 p’s” of marketing) is essential as the whole process will influence how successful a marketing led organisation will be.

YouTube to get Google Analytics

Whilst surfing, I stumbled across this article from Darren Jamieson:

‘YouTube is all set to get the same marketing analysis tool that is used by the Google search engine. When YouTube is integrated with Google Analytics, marketers will be able to track their video and viral campaigns with more accuracy.

Google Analytics will greatly help the marketing department to check how many repeated visits they get, how long do the visitors stay, the number of pages viewed by individual visitors and bounce rate of online videos.

YouTube product manager, Zal Bilimoria said that YouTube is the largest focus group in the world. It is also a brand channel having a strong following that can provide remarkable insights into the customers who interact with your brand and your content. He also added that the company is working hard to incorporate the Google Analytics software. He also expects that the new tools will help the users to understand their target viewers in a better way.

According to a recent report, the BBC is in talks with YouTube for expanding their online offering. Once this deal is done, you will be able to view full-length shows like Doctor Who and Top Gear. Google Analytics can help marketers learn more about their visitors and the way in which they interact with their videos.’

At Bath Marketing Consultancy, we are passionate about online marketing and this is just another step that allows companies to really tailor their marketing efforts to their chosen audience.

KIT – Keep In Touch

There are hundreds of great marketing strategies for getting new customers. But before that, you need to nurture your relationships with your existing customers.

Test yourself – What do you have to offer your existing customers? When did you last let them know? What are you not offering existing customers that you could be offering them? When did you last send a letter to your customers? When did you last email them? Did you measure the response? When did you last call them? What would happen if you doubled your contact with them this year? When you do communicate with them, what more could you be doing to clearly explain the specific benefits that they will experience?

These are all simple questions that could help form your marketing strategy. Why not email me via our contact form and see how we can change your business?

Test Pay per Click (PPC) Advertising on Google!

Become an expert at Internet Marketing; use Pay per Click Advertising. Google has upwards of 95% of the market and running ‘Pay per Click’ is the most powerful breakthrough in Marketing this century – yet very few businesses and business owners truly understand its power in the marketing process.

PPC allows you to reach people who have an interest in what you have (or what you do) and who are actually looking for it right now. As you read this, someone, somewhere is almost certainly on Google looking for what you have to offer.

PPC Advertising allows a link to your website to appear at or near the top of the search engine results they see when they do their search hence driving traffic to your website.

With PPC, the best part of it all is that you only pay Google when someone actually clicks on your advert. If you run a local business, you can even specify that the ads only appear for internet users in your area.

In our view, Pay per Click is the most important revolution in marketing this century and if you are serious about achieving business success, you must contact us and test it out!

Even IT companies need online marketing…….

Bath Marketing Consultancy have put a proposal to a local prospect in the Bristol area who have turned to us for help with their marketing. This excellent IT support company has identified the need to be more visible via search engines and as well as keep their existing clients up to date with their new products and services such as hosting.

Our proposal includes 2 days of website optimisation for organic listing positioning + a very localized and targeted adwords campaign and 1 day of creating a suite of monthly, coded e shots (to give analytics) to their database with links to a dedicated page on their website. Will keep you posted…………..

Is your business sociable?!

While doing some more research on what has been labelled ‘social marketing,’ I stumbled across a number of articles, facts and figures that I have re written for us all to understand!!

In a nutshell, marketing experts have admitted they don’t understand how Twitter and Facebook work, despite two thirds agreeing that it is here to stay.

The Social Media and Marketing survey conducted by McCann Erickson found that 86% of marketing experts thought that social media is more than just a one hit wonder. Despite this positive feedback, 65.6%of marketers say they don’t know how to use social marketing sites to advertise and promote their business.

At present, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are the most popular social networking sites for marketers, with 72.8%, 42.4% and 40.2% having a presence on them respectively.

Many offices have revealed that IT departments have blocked access to sites like Twitter or Facebook-effectively stopping marketers monitoring how to fit their brand in with the ever expanding social trend. Currently over half of UK businesses using social media sites use them to raise their profile or PR, followed by 48% for networking and 30% for advertising.

Joanna Randall, Head of PR at McCann Erickson, Bristol, said, “This study highlights that some of the UK’s major businesses are ignoring social media channels — but they do so at their peril. Word of mouth is now more powerful than ever — opinions can be shared with a global audience at the click of a button.’’

Luckily for the the community of Bath, social networking is an area that Bath Marketing Consultancy understands and can help you use to your advantage! Why not ask us?

Choosing the right company

For some companies, the prospect of finding and appointing a marketing partner can be a daunting challange especially if this is an area they are unsure of. There are a number of questions which are needed to be asked – Where do you start? How do you know if you’re talking to the companies that are right for your business? And what is ‘right’ for your business anyway? Is it their experience or cultural fit? Is it the people? Is it the cost?

In my view, the process of finding the right strategic marketing partner can follow the same basic steps as those you’d go through when buying a house. And whether this is for your business or on behalf of a someone else, having the right mindset before you start the search will pay dividends.

Like most business projects, more research at the beginning will lead to a better brief and ultimately deliver the best result. First, decide on the sort of marketing company you think will suit you in terms of size, location and type. Then start to narrow the search, collating written specifications for those that are available and meet your initial criteria.
Once you’ve looked through these, visit a few of them to see how they feel and whether you could be comfortable there. Finally, get some detail on how they like to work, what they could do for you specifically and how much it will cost you.
